Now is a great time to focus on yourself

About me

I provide individual counseling for adults ages eighteen and older.  I am a supportive, non-judgmental therapist who has been working in the field since 2011.  Some of my specialty areas include perinatal mood disorders, trauma, life transitions, depression, anxiety, and relationship issues.  My job is to provide support and guidance, and to ride along with you on your journey to finding your own answers.  My philosophy is that people heal when they have a non-judgmental place to reflect and a supportive person joining them on their path.  I practice through a social justice lens, incorporating anti-racist, feminist, and LGBTQQIA+ allied ideologies.

My training

I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in Illinois, which means I have earned a master’s degree in social work (MSW), spent over 3,500 clinical hours employed in community mental health agencies, provided over 2,000 hours of direct service to clients, and passed a national and state exam.  I completed my graduate work both at The University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration (SSA) and Portland State University.  I am originally from the Chicago area, and began my career as a social worker in Portland, Oregon, where I worked for 7 years in community mental health and group practice.  I returned to the Chicago area in 2017 and started seeing clients in private practice.

My approach

My work is strengths based and client-centered.  I frequently utilize Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients reach their goals.  Mindfulness is incorporated often in my work and I encourage people to be intentionally present in their own lives.  I have additional post-graduate training in trauma-informed therapy and advanced training in perinatal mood issues to help those struggling in the transition to parenthood.  Prior to becoming an LCSW, I was a photojournalist for 10 years and spent time telling people’s stories through the lens.  The skills and creativity from my first career enhance my work as a therapist.
